Letters to Leopold Stokowski (And a Few From Stokowski)

From the Collection of Edward Johnson and Other Sources

Correspondence of Leopold Stokowski

Leopold Stokowski was a prolific letter writer, and received an even larger volume of correspondence, both from the public and from his colleagues in the music world.  Although he employed secretaries and assistants throughout his career, who usually typed his letters, Stokowski would often emend the typed documents with his notes and corrections to personalise the letter, prior to adding his distinctive signature.

Stokowski's study of compositions of his fellow conductor Otto Klemperer (1885-1973) led Stokowski to perform and record a short Klemperer work Merry Waltz with the New Philharmonia Orchestra in a 14 May, 1974 concert.
